The Faces Behind Back to Basics

Happy Friday, friends! We thought you might like to get to know some of the faces behind Back to Basics West Chester. First up in our “Friday Faces” series are our PAC chair, Rachel Langan, and treasurer, Don Urbanic.

Rachel moved from Pittsburgh to West Chester in order to attend the university, and liked it so much that she now calls West Chester “home”. She has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education for West Chester University, and a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Pittsburgh. She has spent over 15 years working in public education, teaching mostly at the middle school level as a school librarian. Rachel is mom to five kids, ages 13 to 23 (two are WCASD graduates, the other three have been homeschooled since 2020) and found herself in the position of “accidental activist” when schools closed in March 2020. You can contact her at rachel.langan@verizon.net.

Don moved to West Chester over 30 years ago after graduating from the University of Pittsburgh. When he accepted a position at SMS, he thought he would only stay in Eastern PA for a few years before returning to Pittsburgh. Needless to say, he has remained in West Chester where he resides with his wife and two boys who attend Henderson and Peirce. Don has a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and a master's degree in Computer Science and enjoys tracking finances and volunteering. He has served as the Treasurer for a number of community organizations and Political Action Committees. Don can be reached at durbanic@hotmail.com.
