Committee Meetings Tonight Apr 17

There will be three committee meetings tonight at the Spellman Education Building, 782 Springdale Drive, Exton PA:

Some topics of interest that will be covered in tonight’s meeting are:

POLICY REVIEW

  • 13 different policies will be reviewed and/or approved.

  • Policies cover various issues: student discipline, student records, students with disabilities, behavior intervention, policies surrounding school board meetings, electronic communications, etc.

PROPERTY & FINANCE

  • Review of a proposed budget of $302,129,870. That's in excess of THREE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS. A decade ago the budget was $194,440,000. Enrollment has increased by fewer than 500 students in the last 10 years but the budget has increased by over one hundred million dollars ($107,689,870 to be exact.)

  1. It's interesting that the board voted to increase the budget by 53 percent over 10 years, and even raised taxes unnecessarily in 2018 and 2019.

  2. However, this year the board is not planning to raise taxes. Why? What is different about this year? Could it be the Auditor General's scathing report that stated WCASD used a "shell game" to raise taxes? Or could it be that it's an election year and the district wants to appeal to voters by keeping taxes steady in order to get incumbent board members reelected?

  3. Note page 8 regarding charter schools. This is a false narrative put forth by the district.

  • Approval of a board document management system.
